3 RV Fall Camping Tips to Make Your Road Trip Easier!

Finally, fall is here! Whether that means PSS (Pumpkin Spice Season), flannel shirts and jeans, or crisp nature walks, we want you to be able to enjoy the flavors and colors and temperatures of the season. Hitch up your new and used RV for a great fall camping trip after taking a look at our fall camping RV tips.

Fall Camping Tips

Check It Out!

There may be several features on your RV that you don’t use during the warmer months (like the fireplace!) that you’ll want to make sure are in working order.

Additionally, you’ll want to take a quick check over the following items to make sure they’re in good condition. If you’re not sure how, contact our RV service department. We can help!

  • Check roof for cracks/damage; clean off debris
  • Propane tanks
  • Smoke/CO detectors
  • Furnace
  • Tires, hitch, and brakes
  • Tank heaters

Whether the Weather Cooperates…

Say goodbye to the dog days of summer and hello to frisky autumn temps that kind of like to do their own thing! You’ll want to plan on packing a bit more for unpredictable weather shifts, and plan to dress in layers: base layers with outer layers you can easily shed when the afternoon warms up.

Fall Camping Tips

Here’s a list to get you started:

  • Base layers: think thermal, close-fitting layers, merino wool leggings and undershirts; and breathable fibers that pull moisture and sweat away from your skin while still keeping you warm
  • Pants: try to pack quick-dry fabrics (it will help more than you know!)
  • Long sleeve t-shirts and fleece jackets for middle and outer layers
  • Extra socks (don’t skimp on this one!)
  • Waterproof boots or shoes
  • Weather-resistant jacket

Seasonal Camping Gear

You’re not going to need to bug nets, citronella candles, and insect repellant of summer, more than likely. But there are plenty of items you’ll definitely want on hand for a fall camping trip!

Fall Camping Tips

Here are a few things to add to the list:

  • Reusable hand warmers
  • Waterproof matches
  • Meal plan that includes soups, stews, and chilis
  • A rainy day plan: think board games and special movies and snacks if you’re sticking to the RV. If you have local offerings like museums and indoor rec gyms, keep those as options in your back pocket. If you have some feeling of preparation for rainy days, you’ll be less disappointed if one happens to show up.

Planning and packing for a fall camping trip isn’t difficult, but you do need to pull yourself out of the “summer mindset.” Unpredictable weather can keep you guessing, but with some smart prep, you can handle anything Mother Nature throws at you.
