Summer is coming to an end! If many families use Memorial Day weekend to kick off their summer travels, Labor Day weekend is thought of as the last big hurrah. Fall camping trips are wonderful in their own way, but you often have to work and plan around other commitments your family has during the school year. Send this summer out with a bang in your new or used RV. Here are a few RV tips for Labor Day weekend camping.
Stay Close to Home
Your Labor Day weekend camping trip shouldn’t be too far from home. Since it’ll probably be a shorter camping trip than you’re used to, don’t spend it driving! Pick a state park that’s within a couple hour’s drive from home so you can make the most of your time away with the destination, rather than the journey.

Restock Now
Anytime there’s a holiday weekend, stores are hit hard with shoppers loading up. Avoid the crowds and the frenzy of last minute shopping by taking a quick look over your camping supplies – especially the consumables like paper goods, insect repellants, first aid kit supplies, etc. – and restocking now. Come up with a quick meal plan and buy all of the non-perishables this week. A day or two before your Labor Day weekend camping trip, do a quick shopping trip for the perishable items, like meats and veggies.

Relax!
Labor Day weekend trips should be fun and carefree, not filled to the brim with stress and chaos. Campgrounds and attractions fill up fast on holiday weekends, so don’t wait around on making your reservations. Get the reservations you need taken care of in advance – campgrounds, restaurants, museums and aquariums, etc. – and plan to take the rest of the time easy. Throw up a few hammocks around camp and relax in the shade with a great book. Skip the lines of tourist attractions and take a nature walk or an outing in the kayak.

With limited time on your hands, make it count. Pick the things you want to do the most, make the reservations you have to have, and skip the rest.
