Ask An RV Technician – We Answer Your Questions!

We’re about to embark on a regular blog series that we’ll call “Ask an RV Technician”. We will be submitting your questions to resident RV superstar and Service Manager, Hank Dudley. One common question we get a lot around this time is, “What maintenance items should I make sure are performed on my RV this time of year?”.  Hank says, “Roof inspection, wiper blades, and appliance service are all important to take care of at this time of year”.  

Your roof inspection will help to detect any leaks that may cause potential water damage to your RV. Many people park their RV for the winter, and leaks are not discovered until spring time, after they have done months worth of damage. This can be a frustrating and very costly problem. The good news is, with a little proactive care, it’s completely preventable!  

Wiper blades are important as they are a simple thing that will make a huge difference in your winter travel safety. It’s pretty important to be able to see! This often goes overlooked until you’re on the road and realize that they aren’t doing their job and need to be replaced.  

Appliance manufacturers recommend cleaning and servicing your appliances on an annual basis,  even if you do not use them a lot. Some warranties require it as well. Spiders, wasps, and other little creatures can build nests inside your appliance compartments clogging orifices, igniters and other parts that are crucial for proper operation. Small birds have been known to build nests inside vent pipes, creating the possibility of a fire. Taking this preventative measure will add years of life to your appliances, and will help keep you and your family safe.
