Take Your Holiday On The Road

Are you going to be spending your holidays on the road this year? Well if so, you’re certainly not alone! There are plenty of other RV enthusiasts doing the same. Whether you’re a young family with kids, retirees enjoying your golden years, or anything in between, you can make holidays spent on the road just as wonderful as they are at home. Spending the holidays in your RV doesn’t mean that you have to do away with all of those classic traditions that make this season extra special. Most traditions can really be taken with you and done just about anywhere. Sure you may need a small table-top Christmas tree in an RV, or maybe you even decorate a living tree that you’re parked by instead, but there’s a way to make it all work and still make it an exciting time to remember. A string of Christmas lights to decorate your rv, a poinsettia, sparkly ornaments hung in the windows, a Christmas themed throw blanket or sofa pillow, all of these little things help bring on that holiday spirit and to give you that festive feeling that we all love, and they are simple and easy to do in an RV.  Holiday baking? Why not!? Maybe it won’t be on the same grand scale that you would in a stick home, but you can still decorate those cookies and bake those pies! Maybe some store bought cookie dough or pie crusts will help simplify it for the road, but the tradition and the fun can still live on.  A great bonus of RV’ing for the holiday, is that you can make your exit a few days earlier than everyone else and avoid the dreaded holiday traffic. With so many people heading out on the roads on Christmas Eve, it’s a time best avoided if possible. Of course, you can stretch it out a little longer too, and avoid the return crowd. When you have your home with you, what’s the rush?  If you are traveling with little ones, you know how important it can be to have plenty of games and activities on hand to keep them happy for those long distance drives. If you’re too far away to be near your family, or if you’re just choosing to take to the open road this year, you may want to consider spending the holiday with other like minded RV’ers at your campground. Many campgrounds have holiday festivities planned such as white elephant gift exchanges or a shared holiday meal, or you could volunteer to help at a local shelter or soup kitchen. What’s most important is that you do what makes you feel happy and good, and at the same time you create some wonderful memories to carry you on into the New Year.
