Respite – Not Just a Vacation
We get it: if you’re evacuating, you’re probably not thinking “vacation.” But that doesn’t mean you can’t pick a place that has some beautiful features to see and enjoy with your family. Consider your visit to Yellowstone more of a breather even as you await being able to return to your home. Here’s some more information about Yellowstone National Park.
First National Park Established
Yellowstone is renowned for its incredible wildlife and geothermal features.
It was established in 1872 as the first National Park in the United States. Many of the most popular attractions in the park have free admission, so while you may be hurrying to evacuate right now, once you get to Yellowstone you can slow down the pace and enjoy things at your leisure.
Old Faithful
Old Faithful is certainly one of the most famous geyers in the world!
Its eruptions are impressive and reliable – thus its name – coming every half hour to two hours. If an eruption is ending just as you arrive, don’t worry. Just stick around a bit!
Morning Glory Pool
After you see Old Faithful, visit the nearby Morning Glory Pool.
This gorgeous hot spring is named for the flower, which it bears a resemblance to. You’ll take dozens of photos of its brilliant shades of blue and green!
The Grand Prismatic Spring
Grand Prismatic is the third largest hot spring worldwide, and the largest hot spring in the U.S.
Close up views will be pretty, but views from a distance are even more impressive. You’ll be able to view this stunning hot spring from many angles, even from hikes nearby.
Incredible Wildlife
You’ll be amazed at the impressive wildlife at Yellowstone National Park, including moose, bison, elk – and yes, grizzly bears!
Make sure to adhere to all park guidelines for your own safety and enjoyment. Enjoy the wildlife from a safe distance, and don’t interfere with them.

Yellowstone experiences harsh and heavy winters, and many parts of the park close to visitors in October and November. You can check their seasonal openings and closures here.
