Full Time Family Finds Their Calling

full time rv lifestyle rv shades blog Sometimes it’s just amazing the way things work out just when you need them to. I recently read a great story about a man named Todd Seeley, who after working full time laboring in a coal mine, never seeing family and putting his health at risk, decided he wanted to leave his job, sell the family home, buy an RV, and hit the road for a lifestyle of full time RVing. Their home had been on the market, to no avail. In speaking with their pastor, he suggested they talk to some other members of the congregation who happened to be RV’ers and ran a business from their RV. By the end of this conversation, Todd and Renee Seeley had purchased not only the business from the couple, but also their motorhome. That same day they leased out their home and it all fell into place. The Seeley’s and their son, Seth are now full time RV’ers who make custom RV window shades. They’re not just any window shades… They are made from a special fabric that allows the RV occupants to see out, but does not allow the outside passersby to see in (unless it’s dark out). The blinds attach to the outside of the windows, thusly blocking the rays from ever hitting the glass and in turn keeping temperatures inside the RV greatly reduced. They split their time mainly between Texas, Arizona, and Missouri, but travel all over the US. They typically work from whatever campground they are staying in, and business is often generated by other campers coming to check out the jobs they’re working on. In their interview with Greg Gerber of the rvdailyreport.com, the Seeley’s said, “I don’t ever see us going back to a regular job…You can’t make the money you need and you have no control of your life.  Today, we have complete control over our income. If we need more money, we take on more orders. If we need time off, we try to find a campground where we can hide out for a few days”.  The Seeley’s went on to say that for them the best part about full-time RVing is the options it provides. “It is so hard to think about making $20 to $30 an hour working in a coal mine, risking my health and safety, and being overall unhappy about my situation.  If you have a major expense at home, all you can do is try to work overtime or find a part-time job to bring in more money.  When you live in sticks and bricks, you are tied to an area and it is very hard to uproot and change your situation.  For us, if we run out of work, we don’t like the weather or don’t like our neighbors, we can be packed up and out of here in 30 minutes. It is very easy for us to change our situation”.  To learn more about the Seeley’s business, RV Sunshade Company, you can visit their website. There, you can read about the history of the company, read their company blog, and see all of the locations they’ll be heading to next. They just might be staying at the same place as you! So when you’re out there on your adventures, keep your eyes peeled for the folks making some super awesome custom RV shades, and go say “hello” to the Seeley family.
