RV Tips: 5 Ways to Be the Best Camper You Can Be

One way you can make the most out of your camping trip in your new or used RV is to be the kind of camper that Mother Nature loves to have! Here are a few RV tips for being a responsible camper and what you can do to be the best you can be while spending time in the great outdoors.

Leave No Trace

The idea of “Leave No Trace” is that you spend your visit in such a way that you leave the outdoors better than you found it. Follow all campground and park rules for cleanliness and minimize your environmental impact as much as you can. This is something that helps preserve the beautiful outdoors experience not just for future visitors, but for the existing wildlife and habitats.

RV Tips Leave No Trace

Follow the Rules

Right up there with Leave No Trace is following the rules. No visitor is above the rules – not you, your kids, or your pets. Period. Where campgrounds and parks have designated campsites, picnic areas, hiking paths, and more, respect the boundaries. This is simple stuff: don’t cut through other people’s campsites, clean up after your pet if they relieve themselves on public walking areas, and remember: fences are not gates. If there’s a fence or discernible boundary, respect it. Stay an appropriate distance from wildlife, never feed it, and never approach it.

Fire Safety First, Second, and Third

Campfires are an iconic part of any camping experience, but make sure you know how to build, maintain, and extinguish one safely. Don’t use shortcuts that are dangerous. And only use firewood permitted by the campground. If they sell firewood loads, it’s not in an effort to charge you for every dime. It’s for the safety of burning local wood, as firewood brought in long distance can contain parasites and fungi that can harm the local habitat as it burns.

Courtesy – Always!

Being mindful of campground quiet rules is one way you can not just enjoy your camping trip, but help fellow campers enjoy theirs. Don’t keep raucous or loud activity going past the posted time frame, and remember that even mild noise can seem louder when everything else around you is quiet. Be the good neighbor to others you want them to be to you!

Connect to What Counts

Your camping trip is a time for you to connect with the great outdoors, enjoy natural wonders, and get fresh air. You may even find you sleep better while camping! One way you can center and recalibrate your senses is to disconnect from your devices as much as possible. The internet will be waiting for you when you get back home. Put down the screens as much as possible, and set some family rules around screen time use during the day. You won’t regret it!
