Smoke Alarm Choices For Your RV

smoke alarm fire safety rv fire extinguisherSmoke alarm safety… We all know it’s important, yet too often, we go right over yank the battery out when it begins to go off. This isn’t the best idea, as you may well forget to put the battery back in, and then you’re left vulnerable. Did you know that there are different kinds of smoke detectors? There are those that react to the smoke particles in the air (ionization), and those that are light/dark sensitive and react to the broken beam of light when there is smoke in the air(photoelectric), and there are combination smoke alarms. You may find that the detector in your RV is super sensitive and goes off every time you cook. This can be annoying, and you may be tempted to just remove the battery, but did you know that this is most likely because you have one that is sensing the particles in the air? Since RV cabins are smaller and generally do not have the same amount of ventilation as a stick home, your smoke detector is going to go off much easier. You should always use your exhaust fan when cooking, and you may want to switch out your detector for the light sensing version. We found a great website that explains the differences in depth, and is quite helpful in deciding which kind you should have. Don’t forget, you should always have a fire extinguisher on board as well, just in case.  You can visit our online parts store to see what we have available to help keep you safe.
